A Daily Dose of Inspiration: Songs I have performed dances to at Church

These are some songs I have danced to during church services at my church in Florida. It’s so hard to be away from there, while I have found a church to go to here that I feel will feed my soul and spirit until I can return, it’s just not the same I want to dance and freely worship. I am just praying that God opens the door for us to return soon. Until then I continually dance in my house to worship songs and come across songs that I am cheorgraphing dances to as well. Anyways here are a few songs I have performed dances to at churches. I will put the lyrics under the video because these songs are so touching. There will be a little info about the dance behind the song This is a long post but I hope you will at least take the time to read what I have written (I will have a very personal paragraph after the third song)and watch the videos to the songs that are such a big part of my life and who I am:

WhiteHeart: Desert Rose. This was the first song I danced to in a church. I will never forget the dance, we used flags and it was one of the most beautiful dances. This song still touches my heart to this day, the words of it are so encouraging for anyone walking with God (new or long time) it’s just an awesome song.

Lost in a windswept land
In a world of shifting sand
A fragile flower stands apart
There on that barren ground
You feel like the one
Trying to serve Him with all your heart

And you wonder, wonder
Can you last much longer
This cloud you are under
Will it cover you

Desert rose (desert rose)
Don’t you worry, don’t be lonely
Heaven knows, Heaven knows
In a dry and weary land a flower grows
His desert rose

Sometimes holiness
Can seem like emptiness
When you feel the whole world’s laughing eyes
But if it’s a lonely day
Know you’re on the Father’s way
He will hear you when you cry

And He will hold you, hold you
Your Father will hold you
He will love you, love you
For the things you do

Desert rose (desert rose)
Don’t you worry, don’t be lonely
Heaven knows, Heaven knows
In a dry and weary land a flower grows
His desert rose

Another song I have danced to is I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me. This song is so very special to my heart. I started it out in a wheel chair because when I was a senior in high school I was in a very bad car accident and told I would never be able to dance again. When I hear I Can Only Imagine it reminds me of the times I sat there discouraged and the Lord would speak to my heart and let me know my days of dancing were not over and so many times I would just sit and imagine myself dancing again. I healed faster than the doctors predicted and they were even shocked that I regained the movement in my ankle to be able to dance, so I remember crying through the choeoagraphy because I just was so thankful to God for healing me and allowing me to continue my desire of dance. Here is the song:

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

[Chorus]

I can only imagine [x2]

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you

I can only imagine

The last one is Alabaster Box by: Cece Winans. This song is such a touching song to me because it is almost a pefect description of my life. Everytime I have perfomed this song I end up finishing in tears, there is not one time I hear or dance to this song that it does not touch my heart in a deep place.

The room grew still
As she made her way to Jesus
She stumbled through the tears that made her blind
She felt such pain
Some spoke in anger
Heard folks whisper
There’s no place here for her kind
Still on she came
Through the shame that flushed her face
Until at last, she knelt before his feet
And though she spoke no words
Every tear she she shed was heard
As she poured her love for the Master
From her box of Alabaster

Chorus:
And I’ve come to pour
My praise on Him-like oil
From Mary’s alabasterbox
Don’t be angry if I wash His feet with my tears
And dry them with my hair
You weren’t there-the night He found me
You did not feel what I felt
When He wrapped His loving arms around me
And you don’t know the cost
Of the oil in my alabaster box

I can’t forget
The way life used to be
I was a prisoner
To the sins that had me bound
I spent my days
Poured my life-without measure
Into a little treasure box
I thought I had found
Until the day-when Jesus came to me
And healed my soul
With the wonders of-His love
So now I’m giving back to Him
All the praise He’s worthy of
I’ve been forgiven
And that’s why
I love Him so much

Repeat Chorus

Thank you so much for taking the time to step into a bit of my life to see the songs that touch my heart and learn what my desire is. I love dancing for Jesus. I may not be perfect, I in fact sin every day, but the best part is I have a Father in Heaven that loves me no matter what I do and knows that even when I mess up, there is nothing more I want than to try harder and continue to live my life as best I can in a way that he would want me too. Do all my friends understand that maybe not, do I always set a perfect example…absolutely not in fact about 90% of the time I feel like I am failing but then I am reminded that it’s not in my power to be perfect but it is in his power to forgive me when I am not. Every day of my life I will mess up, everyday of my life I will sin even when I am trying my hardest not to but everyday I will be reminded that I am forgiven.

If you made it to the end of my post, I hope you got a little more of a glimpse into my life and heart.

Aw, Toni. Thanks so much for sharing that side of you. I used to do dances in church when I was just a wee one and my Mom was on the “big people” dance team.
I’d love to see one of your dances sometime. 🙂

I Can Only Imagine is one of my all time favorite songs. It is so beautiful. I can hardly hear it without crying. Well, let’s be honest, I do cry. I cry everytime. Great post.

Now that I know we live in the same town, I will tell you that we had a hard time finding a church here too. We aren’t from here either. We are still looking for the right church for us. I am glad you found one that you really like. That is great!

I love the song “I can only Imagine”. Clay and I played it at our wedding in honor of our loved ones that had passed away.
